Chaos at Howe Community Park Sends Multiple Gunshot Victims in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are investigating a gunfire incident that broke out on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area while deputies were breaking up a large unauthorized gathering of several hundred people.

Prior to the Shooting

Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were first dispatched to Howe Community Park just after half past six in the evening after obtaining information of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. Following that, another report was received mentioning a reported physical confrontation breaking out at the location.

A law enforcement helicopter conducted an aerial sweep but reported no active disturbance. However, authorities discovered that an enormous crowd had congregated at Howe Park without any permit or approval.

The Moment Gunfire Erupted

Officers worked to disperse the crowd by setting up around the park's perimeter and using their vehicle PA systems commanding attendees to vacate the area. Approximately 15 minutes were given for attendees to disperse.

While deputies worked to disperse the gathering that upwards of 20 gunshots were fired. The barrage of gunfire caused mass panic. Responding personnel swiftly started finding those who had been shot.

Four Victims Hospitalized

By the time the scene was secured, four shooting victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. Those injured — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their early to late twenties — were brought to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff indicated that two had critical injury classifications, one of the four had moderate gunshot wounds, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.

What Investigators Found

The bulk of the shooting was determined to have unfolded on Cottage Way alongside the local Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators located additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Bullet damage were also found in the wrought iron fence adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries confirmed that a second shooter had been sending rounds south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot store. The nearby Home Depot was placed on lockdown as a precaution. CSI units alongside detectives stayed at the location for hours.

Detainees in Solano County

Details gathered through scanner monitoring indicated that a Kia vehicle was intercepted in an area within Solano County. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were heading to pick up the four detainees to pick up those detained for investigation. Video reviewed at the scene made clear that two shooters had been involved.
